January 12, 2026 – New York — Vishal Chander, Principal and Founder of The Chander Law Firm, P.C., was a featured speaker in a three-hour Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program presented by the New York Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). The program, entitled Family-Based Immigration 101, provided an introduction to and review of the family-based immigration process and was presented to immigration attorneys who are members of the AILA New York Chapter.
The CLE addressed a range of topics central to family-based immigration practice, including immigration through marriage and related visa options, adjustment of status, public charge considerations, affidavits of support, waivers of inadmissibility, and removal of conditions on permanent residence. The program combined statutory and regulatory analysis with discussion of adjudication trends and common practice issues.
Mr. Chander presented on marriage-based immigration, including K-1 and K-3 nonimmigrant visas, as well as waivers of inadmissibility and removal of conditional permanent residence. His presentation focused on eligibility requirements, waiver standards, and procedural considerations for practitioners handling family-based cases.
The program was organized by Mr. Chander and Tsirina Goroshit, Co-Chairs of the AILA New York Family-Based Immigration Committee, with the assistance of committee members. Ms. Goroshit is the founder of the Law Offices of Tsirina Goroshit & Associates, P.C., where her practice focuses on immigration law, including consular processing and litigation.
Additional speakers included Jeffrey Edward Baron, a partner at Baron & Shelkin, P.C., who has practiced immigration and nationality law for more than four decades; Clay Greenberg, an immigration attorney in New York and former federal judicial law clerk; and Wilfred Zamora, a Professor of Law at Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business, who previously served as Managing Attorney at CUNY Citizenship Now.
