Deferred Enforced Departure Extended for Liberians

On March 15, 2013, USCIS announced its intention to automatically extend employment authorization for Liberian nationals under the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) through September 30, 2013. This follows President Obama’s intention to extend DSD through September 30, 2014 for qualified Liberians and those without nationality who habitually resided in Liberia. The six month automatic extension will allow eligible Liberian nationals to continue working in the United States while applications for new employment authorization documents (EADs) are processed covering the additional 18 month period through September 30, 2014. Deferred Enforced Departure allows qualified individuals to remain in the United States fro limited periods of time according to presidential directive. In 2007, DED was announced for Liberian nationals whose TPS status was expiring on September 30, 2007. DED was extended again in 2009 and against annually until March 2013, when President Obama extended DED for 18 months.
