Firm News: Vishal Chander Presents Second Session of Immigration CLE for Pro Bono Attorneys

Vishal Chander, Immigration Attorney, presenting Part 2 of the Immigration Basics for Pro Bono Clinic Lawyers CLE at the AABANY Queens Pro Bono Clinic on December 3, 2025.

On December 3, 2025, Vishal Chander, Principal Attorney of The Chander Law Firm PC, presented the second session of the two-part CLE series, Immigration Basics for Pro Bono Clinic Lawyers, at the AABANY Queens Pro Bono Clinic, held at the AAFE One Flushing Community Center.

This session built on the foundational training provided in Part 1 and focused on helping volunteer attorneys understand the structure and mechanics of immigration court proceedings, as well as how to identify potential forms of relief for individuals in removal proceedings. Topics included what to expect at master calendar and individual hearings, the roles of the Immigration Judge and government counsel, filing and procedural requirements, and issue-spotting for relief from removal.

The program also provided an overview of common forms of relief available in immigration court, including asylum and other humanitarian protections, family-based and hardship-based relief, adjustment of status, cancellation of removal, waivers of inadmissibility, and voluntary departure. Emphasis was placed on practical screening and triage skills essential for effective pro bono representation.

The CLE series was organized by the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) through its Issues Committee, Pro Bono Committee, and Immigration Committee, as part of AABANY’s ongoing efforts to support high-quality pro bono legal services for immigrant communities across New York City.

The Chander Law Firm PC is proud to support this work and to contribute to the training of attorneys serving vulnerable populations in removal proceedings.
