The New York chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) issued notes from the most recent liaison meeting the the USCIS New York District Office. Updates regarding the office include: Information Desk to be Manned by Actual Immigration Officers District Director Andrea Quarantillo stated that immigration officers will now man information desks on the first and third floors of the New York District Office as a result of the workforce restructuring system implemented on October 5, 2009. Officers at the information desks will be able to make decisions on cases, adjudicate RFE and NOID responses, give I-551 stamps, issue emergency Advance Parole documents and respond to inquiries. The restructuring system rotates officers every three months. As a result, officers conducting adjustment of status interviews will change periodically. Infopass Appointments Reduced As a result in the reduced demand for Infopass appointments, the New York District Office will offer only 200 — 250 appointments a day. Walk-in appointments will remain available in emergency situations. Garden City Office to be Divided USCIS expects to divide the workload of the Garden City office between two new offices located in Holtsville, Long Island and Queens. The offices are expected to be opened in the spring or summer 2010. Additional offices may be opened in Brooklyn and Bronx depending on funding. Processing Timelines
