DALLAS, TEXAS — The Chander Law Firm celebrated Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with a display booth at the 2009 State Farm Asian Festival on May 2, 2009. The Asian Festival is an annual event produced by the Dallas Greater Asian American Chamber of Commerce. The display was entitled “Asian Americans & the Development of U.S. Immigration Law.†The display recounted the implementation of restrictions on immigration law to exclude the Asians from entering the United States. The display chronicled the passage of anti-Asian immigration restrictions as well as some of the court cases fought to overcome the discrimination. Mr. Chander stated, “In May we celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month to recognize the struggles and achievements Asian Americans have made to this country. It was through the courage of individuals and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s that Asian Americans have equal rights under the law.†Copies of display materials are available.
