New Immigrant Visa Fee Starts February 1

On February 1, 2013, USCIS will begin collecting a $165 Immigrant Fee from foreign nationals seeking permanent resident status in the United States. The new fee was established and announced on September 24, 2010. The new fee will need to be paid by foreign nationals who are granted an immigrant visa by the Department of State after their immigration interview at United States Consulates abroad. The new fee will be paid online through the USCIS ELIS system. The fee must be paid in order for permanent residents to receive their green cards.
