Vishal Chander, Immigration Attorney, presenting a CLE on Immigration Basics for Pro Bono Clinic Lawyers at the AABANY Manhattan Pro Bono Clinic on November 19, 2025.

On November 19, 2025, Vishal Chander, Principal Attorney of The Chander Law Firm PC, presented the first session of a two-part CLE series titled Immigration Basics for Pro Bono Clinic Lawyers at the AABANY Manhattan Pro Bono Clinic.

The training was designed to equip volunteer attorneys with the core skills necessary to advise clients facing removal (deportation) proceedings. During Part 1 of the series, the program covered how to read and analyze a Notice to Appear (NTA), how to locate detained clients, and how to assist families navigating immigration bond and custody issues.

The CLE series was organized by the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY) through its Issues Committee, Pro Bono Committee, and Immigration Committee, reflecting AABANY’s continued commitment to strengthening pro bono legal services for immigrant communities.

Part 2 of the program will be held on December 3, 2025, at the AABANY Queens Pro Bono Clinic and will focus on what to expect in immigration court and the forms of relief available to respondents in removal proceedings.

The firm extends special thanks to Rachel Lee, Nandar Winn Kerr and the AABANY Pro Bono Committee, and Beatrice Leong for their leadership and support in making this training series possible.
